A New Inexact Inverse Subspace Iteration for Generalized Eigenvalue Problems
In this paper, we represent an inexact inverse subspace iteration method for computing a few eigenpairs of the generalized eigenvalue problem Ax = Bx [Q. Ye and P. Zhang, Inexact inverse subspace iteration for generalized eigenvalue problems, Linear Algebra and its Application, 434 (2011) 1697-1715 ]. In particular, the linear convergence property of the inverse subspace iteration is preserved.
متن کاملOn the nonnegative inverse eigenvalue problem of traditional matrices
In this paper, at first for a given set of real or complex numbers $sigma$ with nonnegative summation, we introduce some special conditions that with them there is no nonnegative tridiagonal matrix in which $sigma$ is its spectrum. In continue we present some conditions for existence such nonnegative tridiagonal matrices.
متن کاملOne Can Hear the Composition of a String: Experiments with an Inverse Eigenvalue Problem
To what extent do the vibrations of a mechanical system reveal its composition? Despite innumerable applications and mathematical elegance, this question often slips through those cracks that separate courses in mechanics, differential equations, and linear algebra. We address this omission by detailing a classical finite dimensional example: the use of frequencies of vibration to recover posit...
متن کاملSolutions to a quadratic inverse eigenvalue problem
In this paper, we consider the quadratic inverse eigenvalue problem (QIEP) of constructing real symmetric matrices M,C, and K of size n× n, with (M,C,K) / = 0, so that the quadratic matrix polynomial Q(λ) = λ2M + λC +K has m (n < m 2n) prescribed eigenpairs. It is shown that, for almost all prescribed eigenpairs, the QIEP has a solution with M nonsingular if m < m∗, and has only solutions with ...
متن کاملNonnegative Inverse Eigenvalue Problem
Nonnegative matrices have long been a sorce of interesting and challenging mathematical problems. They are real matrices with all their entries being nonnegative and arise in a num‐ ber of important application areas: communications systems, biological systems, economics, ecology, computer sciences, machine learning, and many other engineering systems. Inverse eigenvalue problems constitute an ...
